Fuji further extends the adoption of TORZITE-F rings to Arowana Top T-KG, T-KW and T-RV guides for 2016 in its quest for the ultimate lightweight, tangle-free guide.
Arowana Top T-KG Extension
Last year we saw the introduction of Fuji’s ‘Arowana Top’ T-KG guides, which Fuji touts as its lightest guide ever built thanks to a newly designed compact frame, short pipe and the use of TORZITE ring. Designed without any uneven ridges or frame joints, the Arowana Top’s high-profile, yet compact frame structure allows line to slide through smoothly and prevents line tangles around the tip.
Line funneling through the choke guide or exiting the top guide can occasionally come into contact with the guide frame at certain angles. Fuji subsequently introduced the TORZITE-F ring in 2015, which overcomes this issue by having a flanged rim covering the area where the line is most likely to come into contact with the guide frame. Despite the TORZITE-F’s relatively larger surface contact area, it is still lighter than a SiC ring of the same size and possesses the same inner diameter and properties of a regular TORZITE ring. At the time of introduction, only sizes 6, 7 and 8 of the T-KG top featured the new TORZITE-F flanged-rim ring. This year, Fuji further expands the TORZITE-F range of T-KG tip tops, making its flagship top guide now available in sizes from 4 up to 12.
T-KW Guides Get Flanged
There’s good reason to cheer for offshore, big-game casting/popping and tournament casting enthusiasts. TORZITE-F ring options are now available for Fuji KW guides from sizes 8 to 25. By featuring the flanged-rim TORZITE-F rings, the friction from thick leader knots is reduced, allowing for smoother line passage through the guides.
T-RV Reverse Guide Size Extension
Fuji’s TORZITE-F Reverse Guides also get a size extension with the introduction of sizes 30F and 40F, which will be ideal for heavy-duty spinning rods. The RV’s unique “3D Structure” frame design features a narrow slope gradually widening around the ring which prevents line from getting caught between the guide foot and blank while the tilted TORZITE-F ring position effectively unravels spiraling line from the spool and funnels it through the other guides smoothly when casting. According to Fuji, the RV frame design is stronger in tensile strength and stiffness compared to MNSG guides of the same size.
NanoBraid®, the ultra thin yet strong nanofilament braid from Sufix finally makes it debut in South East Asia. First introduced in 2013, Sufix NanoBraid® won Best New Braided Line award at EFTEX 2013.
Sufix Nanobraid® is built with a Wide Angle Braiding Technology that creates higher tension on the braiding process, resulting in a tight weave and super strong, silky smooth line. The densely braided Dyneema fibers and a high pitch count – up to twice as high as on most braided lines – gives consistent quality, uniform diameter and increased abrasion resistance, improving the line’s performance. According to Sufix, Nanobraid is up to 3 times stronger than any other line in the category and also features superior knot and shock strength unmatched by any other ultra thin line. The silky soft line is extremely sensitive and runs quetly through the guides.
For ultralight/finesse lure anglers that need that very thin line yet have the confidence of line strength, NanoBraid® is the ideal choice. Also ideal for shallow water micro jigging applications. And yes, it’s “Gomoku Approved”!
Available in Aqua Camo colour in 100m spools.
Available ratings: 8lb (0.08mm), 11lb (0.10mm), 16lb (0.12mm).
In this posting, Fishonmag.com highlights 3 new products from Fuji – the TORZITE-F flanged-rim ring, T-RV reverse frame spinning guide and T-KG ‘Arowana Top’ guide.
Last year, Fuji introduced its flagship TORZITE ring, a high-strength, super-durable ceramic that has been rigorously polished to create a slim, lightweight and low-friction ring. Besides being slimmer, lighter and having a greater surface area that allows for a greater dispersion of force under line load as compared to conventional ring designs, TORZITE rings have a larger inner diameter than an equivalent-sized SiC ring. This allows rod builders to downsize guides by one size, translating to significant weight savings of about 20-30% in total guide weight.
This year, Fuji expands its TORZITE ring one step further by introducing the TORZITE-F ring, designed especially for tip top and choke guides. Line funneling through the choke guide or exiting the top guide can occasionally come into contact with the guide frame at certain angles. The TORZITE-F ring overcomes this issue by featuring a flanged rim covering the area where the line is most likely to come into contact with the guide frame. Despite the TORZITE-F’s relatively larger surface contact area, it is still lighter than a SiC ring of the same size and possesses the same inner diameter and properties of a regular TORZITE ring.
T-RV Reverse Guide
Fuji’s RV type frame guide first made its debut last year in the form of a KR Concept choke guide for bait finesse casting rods. This year, the double foot RV guide also comes in a larger version especially for spinning configurations. In keeping with the KR Concept, the new RV guide features a smaller ring but a taller frame to effectively choke and funnel line through the micro guides.
Fuji calls the RV’s unique frame design “3D Structure”, which enables line to flow through the guide smoothly without getting tangled. The guide frame’s narrow slope gradually widening around the ring prevents line from getting caught between the guide foot and blank while a uniquely-designed, flared ‘3D back bridge’ smoothly unravels any line that gets caught around the guide during a cast. Additionally, the slightly raised front bridge prevents line from slapping the blank while a slightly off-angle ring position facilitates smooth line flow when casting.
Comparison between a RV guide with flanged TORZITE-F ring and KW guide with SiC ring
By combining the new flanged TORZITE-F ring with the RV frame, the new T-RV Reverse Guide series is now available for both spinning and bait finesse baitcast versions.
Arowana Top T-KG Guides
Fuji’s latest T-KG tip top guide is its lightest guide ever built thanks to its compact frame, short pipe and use of TORZITE ring. As a comparison, the T-KGTT 5.5-2.2 weighs only 0.22 grams while a similar sized T-MNST tip top weighs 0.37 grams. Labelled the ‘Arowana Top’, the T-KG gets its name from its Arowana mouth-like shape pipe, designed without any uneven ridges or frame joints to enable line to slide smoothly and prevent line getting tangled around the tip.
Additionally, the T-KG tip top is also designed to have the same height as an equivalent-sized tip guide to facilitate smooth line flow during casting. For sizes 6, 7 and 8, the T-KG top features the new TORZITE-F flanged-rim ring.

In the world of fishing tackle, Fuji rings and guides are synonymous with rod component innovation and uncompromising quality. Following the introduction of TORZITE, Fuji’s high-end ceramic ring earlier this year comes a full line up of new guides in the form of Concept “O”.
Deep Pressed Frame
Concept “O” is essentially a range of Fuji’s New Guide Concept frames featuring Fuji’s “Deep Pressed” frame and Improved Hard “O” (Aluminium Oxide) ring, making it truly a cost-effective rod guide without compromising the quality Fuji guides are renowned for. A conventional frame holds the ring only at a single point. Therefore, how secure the ring sits in the frame depends on the thickness of the frame to keep contact pressure. Fuji’s “Deep Pressed” frame design firmly secures the ring inside a thinner but wider frame that ‘wraps’ around the ring.
Not only does this design protect the entire outside edge of the ring, it provided a full epoxy seal around the ring perimeter due to a greater surface contact area, effectively securing the ring in place. The Deep Pressed design also makes it possible to mount thinner rings to achieve greater weight savings in both frame and ring. Naturally, lighter rod components equate to a lighter and more responsive rod. The Deep Pressed frame was previously only found in more premium Fuji guides. With the new Concept “O” line of guides, Fuji Deep Pressed frames can now be found in more economically-priced rods.
New Fuji LY Single Foot High Frame Guide
With the recent introduction of the new LY guide featuring the Deep Pressed frame, Fuji’s Concept “O” line up is now complete. The new Fuji LYOG guide is a radically improved version of the Y guide. Thanks to a shorter guide foot, the guide is now 5% lighter than the regular Y guide with the same height and strength. A shorter guide foot also reduces any restrictions to rod flex. To ensure the guide doesn’t pop out from the binding, a double arrow-shaped foot with dimpled surface is adopted to give the whipping thread a more secure grip. A small bump on the sole side of the guide reduces that annoying ‘cracking’ sound at the guide when a rod is flexed.
Fuji has established itself through the years that every component bearing the Fuji emblem is assured of the highest quality. By combining the Deep Pressed frame design and improved hard “O” rings in the form of Fuji Concept “O” guides, Fuji brings guides that were once only reserved for more premium rings now within the reach of economically-priced rods, bringing their overall quality up another notch ahead of the competition.
Riding in the wake of Sufix’s successful 832 braid comes Sufix Versa Game, a pure 8-carrier braided line that’s silky smooth, round and yet incredibly strong. The 8-carrier construction of thin Dyneema® fibers create a super strong and thin braided line that has high abrasion resistance and superb knot and shock strength.
Sufix’s R8 Precision Braiding technology weaves the braid in a high tension process to create a round, supple and smooth braided line with consistent diameter and quality. This soft and silky smooth line has low friction when passing through rod guides, resulting in silent, long and accurate casts. But where this line really shines is in the light and micro jigging game. The Sufix Versa Game boasts in its excellent Strength to Diameter Ratio. A PE #0.8 line rating (0.148mm) has the breaking strength of approximately 18lb. An excellent choice for light tackle enthusiasts and micro jigging fans when you want to get that little jig down to the depths quickly in fast currents.
The Sufix Versa Game comes in PE rating, a Japanese rating system whereby the diameter of the line is standardized and consistent irregardless of brand or make. It is often generalized that the PE number of the line is equivalent to a multiplication of ten of the corresponding PE in terms of line poundage (e.g. PE #1 = 10lb, PE #2 = 20lb, etc), although this is not entirely accurate. The breaking strength of say, a PE #1 line can vary between different manufacturers.
The Sufix Versa Game is available in Lo-Vis Green and Pink Mango in 150m and 300m spools. Rapala VMC is currently giving away a free Rapala lure with every spool of Sufix Versa Game purchased. Check it out at your nearest Rapala & Storm dealer, while stocks last.
Made of high-strength, low-density material. Rigorously polished to minimise friction. Slim and lightweight. This is TORZITE, Fuji’s next generation ceramic ring.
According to Fuji, the name “TORZITE” is derived from the geometric term “torus”, describing the unique shape of the toric ring. With this new material and shape, the TORZITE ring is much thinner and lighter than a SiC ring of the same size, effectively reducing the overall weight of a guide by about 10%.
A cross-sectional view of the TORZITE ring shows a greater surface area that allows for a greater dispersion of force under line load as compared to conventional ring designs.
This test shows how a monofilament line that’s run through a TORZITE ring under the same load results in lesser line curl than an equivalent line running through a SiC ring.
Thanks to its slimmer shape, the TORZITE ring’s inner diameter is approximately 15% larger than a SiC ring of the same size.
What this means is that we can downsize guides by one size, translating to significant weight savings of about 20-30% in total guide weight. Downsizing to lighter guides also makes the tip lighter, reducing bouncing and improving rod blank sensitivity.
External impact is one of the biggest problems for ceramic rings. Fuji TORZITE has a special characteristic that bounces off the impact like a spring.
TORZITE’s high-strength ceramic material has the same level of abrasion resistance and impact strength as SiC. This is despite the fact that a TORZITE ring is much thinner than an equivalently sized SiC ring. Therefore the chances of rings fracturing upon inadvertent impact are lower compared to other lower grade ring materials.
Illustration shows the difference in micro pits on SiC and TORZITE ring surface.
TORZITE rings are highly polished to a very smooth finish to maximize fishing line performance and prolong line life. In conjunction with the toric ring design, line flow is smoother and heat build up is dramatically reduced while fighting fish. A smoother ring surface reduces contact pressure and friction, allowing for smoother casts and retrieves. Fuji’s lab tests have also found that monofilament lines have 4 times longer line life or endurance when used on TORZITE rings compared to SiC rings.
Besides guides, Fuji also introduces several other new rod components for 2014. The newly-developed LO/AN lock-nut is designed to firmly secure the Fuji DPS-SD/ASH nut from loosening. The business end of the lock-nut is a threadless collar with a stopper to prevent loosening of the nut during fishing. Fuji calls this the BACK STOP mechanism.
Fuji’s new LO/AN lock nut
For 2014, Fuji also introduces an array of new reel seats, namely the PLS, PTS and TVS, each with specific purposes.
The TVS reel seat is Fuji’s first blank-touch reel seat for spinning rods, designed specifically for sensitivity and accurate casting. Ergonomically designed, the TVS reel seat fits naturally between the thumb and fore finger, forming a “V” shape when viewed from above. The thumb positioned on the blank at the side of the reel seat gives more stability hence optimizing casting accuracy.
Fuji’s PTS (Palm Trigger Seat) is designed to be wider and flatter to improve palming and grip hold. The trigger shape is also refined to reduce finger stress.
The Fuji PLS (Palming Support Light Weight Seat) is designed based on ergonomics to keep the angler’s wrist at a natural angle, offering comfortable palming with minimal stress on the wrist. Sensitivity is also improved with blank exposure. The PLS reel seat is recommended for jigging rods and corresponds to reels size 100-500 (Daiwa) and 1000-3000 (Shimano).
